How to measure a QR campaign without mistaking scans for sales

Measure QR campaigns with separate codes per placement and compare visits and goal clicks over the same period and timezone. These events are not unique people or revenue; verify purchases separately.

Design a measurable campaign

  1. State one goal such as viewing a menu, saving a coupon, booking or purchasing, then track the completion event separately.

  2. Create a distinct campaign for each location, table, poster or flyer you want to compare. One shared QR removes the placement signal.

  3. Use a consistent reporting period and timezone. Document staff tests, duplicate visits, previews and likely bot traffic.

  4. In the weekly report, change one element of a weak placement—copy, position or destination—and compare the next period using the same rules.

Scans, visits and clicks differ

Camera recognition, arrival at a redirect, and a button click inside the page are separate events. A QRhop event count must not automatically be described as unique people or completed purchases.

Split codes by decisions you can make

Even if a store entrance and checkout share a destination, use separate campaigns when you may change them independently. Record the nearby call to action and artwork version to explain performance differences.

Keep UTM names consistent

If you also use web analytics, define utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign names before publishing. Do not put names, email addresses or phone numbers in URL parameters. Keep a mapping between QRhop campaign names and analytics tags.

Age and gender require consent

A QR visit does not reveal a reliable age or gender. When the information is necessary, ask through an optional survey that explains purpose, choices and retention. Do not assign non-responders to guessed categories.

Calculate conversion honestly

If there are 100 visits and 12 coupon saves, the event-based save rate is 12%. It does not prove that 12 of 100 distinct customers converted. Document time windows, refunds and missing-data rules when joining payment records.

QR analytics questions

Are scans the same as customers?

No. One person may open repeatedly, and previews or automated requests can add events.

Can age and gender be detected automatically?

Not reliably from a QR visit. Use an optional, clearly explained survey with consent.

How many campaigns should I create?

Split by units where the result can change a decision. Avoid extra segments you will not act on.

Keep a campaign comparison record

This completed worksheet is fictional. It shows what to record before changing a printed campaign; it is not an experiment run by QRhop. CSV files are planning worksheets, not files for the bulk QR importer. Column keys are English in every language.

Period / daysTime zonePlacement / creativeGoalCost (USD)Landing visitsGoal-click visitsRateContext

2 / 7Asia/Seoulcounter / Bbooking201001515%Local festival: a confounding condition
  1. Before printing, choose one goal button and a separate campaign address for each placement. Record the final URL, creative version and who will maintain it; check the destination on a real device.

  2. Compare equal durations in one time zone with the same goal definition and currency. Log print and distribution costs consistently. Exclude your test traffic from the comparison and record any coverage gaps or recording limits.

  3. Change one planned element and note concurrent promotions, holidays or weather. Here the rate rises from 10% to 15%, a difference of 5 percentage points, but the local festival also changes exposure. This worksheet cannot establish that creative B caused the improvement.

  4. Check verified booking or merchant records separately if purchases matter. Never convert goal-click visits into people, orders or revenue. Repeat under comparable conditions before deciding on a print run.
